Materials: Glass, Copper

The relationship between a glass artist and their art is similar to that of mother and child. The blow pipes used to manipulate glass resemble an umbilical cord that connects the artist and the glass. By inhaling and exhaling, to shape the glass, the artist is able to help the glass take on its final form. Similar to the birth of a baby and umbilical removal, the moil and the blowpipe are also removed from the glass upon completion. When removing glass from a blow pipe, the pipe leaves a hole in the glass that resembles a belly button. In this project, I focus on the unwanted parts to create the sculpture to show the path from body to body.
